| THE POPE'S MESSAGE TO NIGERIA ON THE RECENT KILLINGS IN JOS |
The Holy Father was shocked and saddened to learn of the outbreak of violence, retribution and killing in central Nigeria over the weekend [March 7, 2010]. He sends his condolences to all those who mourn the loss of love ones, particularly women and children, and offers prayers for those who injured and for all who are working to restore security and calm. His Holiness encourages people of different ethnicities and beliefs to replace anger and revenge with forgiveness and charity. Upon all the people of the region, and in a special way those most affected by these atrocities, the Holy Father invokes God’s abundant blessings of healing and strength.
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone
